Do You Ride with Music?

Though some people may argue it, riding with music can help your concentration and comfort on your bike immensely. Studies have shown that while a person is listening to music, they are capable to focus more on the task at hand while still being very laid back about the whole ordeal. Although it may seem that you have to be competition mode from the second that the starting gate drops, it actually helps a lot to be calmer. When you are more relaxed, you are able to concentrate more on the movements that you are making with your body and your bike alike and actually may even ride better than before!
Not to mention, music is a really good motivator and will keep you pumped up for the whole moto.
Pre-Race Prep
It's no secret that since the beginning of time people have enjoyed the ability to get stoked for their moto using their favorite music. Okay, so since the beginning of the time that you were able to get a portable player, but point taken. Any who, if you ever walk around the pits between races or in the morning before they start, you will see most everyone plugged into their Ipod and either dancing around or sitting down with their eyes closed.
This is a sort of meditation for people, and doing these things before you ride will help to ease nerves and to really get your heart pumping and your adrenaline rushing before you even get on your bike.
These are some of the most used bands for a pre-race playlist:
- Anything by Lil' Wayne
- Five Finger Death Punch
- Thousand Foot Krutch
- Queens of the Stoneage
- All That Remains
- Killswitch Engage
- Eminem
- Pantera
- Metallica
- Anything Metal/Hard Rock
On The Track Playlist
Being on the track is obviously what you have been training and preparing for, so you want to make sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible. Having a playlist that will work with you to get your adrenaline pumping through your body and will have a fast beat to keep you amped up can be difficult, but it is entirely possible.
I remember spending hours upon hours on my computer daily, just downloading some new music for my collection. The best thing that you can do is to learn from others and do as they do. Ask your friends if you can borrow their Ipod so you can synch your playlists, but make sure that you have the same music taste as them. You don't want to be in 4th gear about to hit a huge double when all of a sudden Taylor Swift comes on. Complete mood killer.
Post- Race Tunes
After the race, it's all about chilling out and getting yourself ready for the next moto, or if your day is over, just having a good time with friends. The best music for winding down, I found, is something with a more Caribbean feel. Who doesn't feel calm when they listen to Bob Marley? You can also put on some country if you like it, or anything with a slower beat that will help to settle you down.
