Touted as “Southern California's Ultimate Motocross Grand Prix,” the BTO Sports “Race Around The Lake” is finally coming back to Lake Castaic in Castaic, California. Though the once-annual event did take a few years off, the motocross industry as a whole is buzzing following the latest news of its return.
This isn't your father's motocross event, that's for sure. Past “Race Around The Lake” events have featured such names as Travis Pastrana, Erik Kehoe, Ryan Hughes, Jeff Emig, Rodney Smith and Ron Lechien - and if past riders are any indication, this year's “Race Around The Lake” is sure to be a star-studded event from start to finish. But don't let the big names scare you - there are enough classes and heats here to accommodate riders of all ages and skill levels; buddy races are available that allow you and a friend to take turns taking rides around the track. Indeed, this truly is a motocross event that is geared towards the entire family and race fans of every age.
The event is scheduled to take place over three days: October 28, 29 and 30, at the beautiful racetrack located at Lake Castaic. The track itself contains tunnels, forested runs, cement, beachfront trails, canyons, and plenty of rolling hills for the riders to overcome as they literally race around the lake in southern California.
Non-race events scheduled for “Race Around The Lake” include live music, vendors, camping, and even a freestyle jump show hosted by the Metal Mulisha. Lucky fans will have the opportunity to meet some of the stars of the Metal Mulisha team, including Wes Agee, Derek Garland and Jimmy Fitzpatrick, and more. Fans that truly have lady luck on their side might even score an autograph from their favorite Metal Mulisha superstar.
Tickets to the BTO Sports “Race Around The Lake” cost $10 per person per day, with weekend passes available for $20. Tickets are $5 for children under 10 years of age. Riders participating in the event are required to check-in at least one hour before the start of their schedule race. Alcohol is not allowed at the event.
Riders must wear their helmets at all times when inside the pit or on the track. Riding in the pit is strictly forbidden except when approaching the starting line or leaving a race. Riders are only allowed to race with the number they've been assigned and all bike engines must be shut off within 20 minutes of the final race of each day.
When asked several years ago about his personal experience with the racetrack at Lake Castaic, Travis Pastrana exclaimed, “I raced this race at Castaic Lake one time. That was one of the funnest races I've done!” With such a strong endorsement from one of the biggest names in the industry, it's easy to see why this is one grand prix you can't afford to miss.
