Indoor Motocross Winter Series Kicks Off in Asheville

Taking place at the WNC Ag Center on November 25 and 26, the 2011-2012 FMF Indoor MX Winter Series officially kicked off in Asheville, North Caroilna, continuing a series that has been around since 1992. The event, which features rising young stars and highly successful amateurs, has been popular ever since its inception.
The next event in the series will take place December 9-10 at the Smokey Mountain Expo Arena in Morristown, Tennessee. Other stops of the 2011-2012 FMF Indoor MX Winter Series include December 30-31 back at the WNC AG Center in Asheville, North Carolina; January 6-7 at Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, Tennessee; January 13-14 at The Arena in Corbin, Kentucky, February 3-4 again at the WNC AG Center in Asheville, North Carolina. The series officially wraps up on February 10-11, when the series makes it return to the Smokey Mountain Expo Arena in Morristown, Tennessee.
Those who wish to participate in the 2011-2012 FMF Indoor MX Winter Series need to be aware of some unique rules. For one, not all types of fuel are acceptable for racing indoors. The organizers of the series specifically cite VP Ultimate 4, VP U4.2, MRX 01, and MR 11 as unacceptable fuels for the series, as well as anything that contains Benzene, Propylene Oxide, or Toluene. Acceptable riding fuels include VP C12, Torco 112, Phillips, Turbo Blue, Cam 2, Sunoco, AV Gas, XXX Racing Fuel, Dragon Terragon 110, Dragon Terragon 110-02, and any gasoline that is dispensed from a pump.
A typical day at one of the events in the series begins with rider signups from 10:00 am until 1:30 pm, with practice opening up at 12:00 pm sharp. Qualifiers and pro practice sessions start at 2:00 pm. Finally, at 7:00 pm each night, the main event begins.
Daily admission to any event on the 2011-2012 FMF Indoor MX Winter Series schedule is $15 per adult or $5 per child. Class signups are $25 for amateurs and $35 for pros. All riders who are under the age of 18 years old will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to ride. A signed release from a parent or guardian may suffice. No license or memberships are required to compete in any of the events in the series.
Participants in the pro riding class have the opportunity to win a share of the prize money after each race. Minimum payoffs include $400 for first, $300 for second, $250 for third, $200 for fourth, $150 for fifth, $125 for sixth, $100 for seventh, $80 for eighth, $70 for ninth, and $60 for tenth. These are only minimum purse payouts, however, and awards will increase if 15 or more riders compete in any given event. Amounts are valid for professionals in both the 250 and the 125 class.
