2012 mini moto sxTouted as the largest mini-bike race in the world, the ninth annual Geico MiniMoto SX, Fueled by Monster Energy, is set to take place on Sunday, May 6, 2012. The event will be held inside the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Geico MiniMoto SX, Fueled by Monster Energy, has had to overcome its share of challenges in order to continue operation throughout the years. While they had been working with the Orleans Arena for quite some time, 2011's event was relocated to the South Point Hotel due to a scheduling conflict. This was originally meant as a one-year deal, and the move was made in coordination with the approval of both the Orleans Arena and the South Point Hotel. Although organizers of the MiniMoto SX tried to renew their agreement with the South Point Hotel, negotiations ultimately fell through.

Other problems have also shaped the format of the Geico MiniMoto SX, Fueled by Monster Energy. Due to the loss of some of their main sponsors, as well as rising production costs, organizers had to re-think the timing and scheduling of the event. While it traditionally takes place on Friday night, the ninth annual Geico MiniMoto SX will take place on Sunday night in 2012. The reason for the move is the EnduroCross race, which is already scheduled for Friday of that same weekend. By holding these events one after another, organizers and sponsors can cut down on their production costs. The only other choice faced by the staff at the MiniMoto SX was to cancel the event altogether - an option they've tried to avoid in the past.

A total of 12 different classes will race in the event, including eight for adults, one strictly for women, and three for youth. The event will close with their special World Final Race, an event that lets the top three racers from their Youth and Expert classes, as well as the first place finisher of their Women's division, against international motocross championships. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners of the World Final Race, and this is the MiniMoto SX's third consecutive year hosting the event.

Despite the many changes the MiniMoto SX event has faced, organizers remain confident about both the previous success and the future of the race. “We are all very passionate about MiniMotoSX, which is still the largest Mini Bike race in the world but sometimes reality kicks us in the butt and we have to make changes to keep it viable,” States a recent press release from the MiniMotoSX Staff. “We are already working very hard to make the 2012 race very fun and we look forward to seeing you at the Orleans.”

The Geico MiniMoto SX, Fueled by Monster Energy, remains the world's largest mini-bike race. The organizers and sponsors involved with the event have gone to great lengths to ensure the race's survival, even if it means modifying the format a little bit. With the dedication already shown by the crew at the MiniMoto SX, the show will undoubtedly continue for years to come.
